Son of Albert George Woods, Chairman of Westhoughton Urban District Council 1958-59.

Represented South Ward on Westhoughton UDC.

Chairman of the Health, Parks and Finance Committees.

At 29 he was the youngest Chairman in the history of Westhoughton UDC at the time.

Magistrate from 1976 and became Chairman of Bolton Bench 1995-99.

Chairman of the Bolton Magistrates Courts Committee.

Chairman of the South Lancashire Branch of the Magistrates Association.

Governor of Blackrod Primary School and Treasurer of Blackrod Youth Club.

He died when he suffered a suspected heart attack while driving a truck which crashed on Plodder Lane, Farnworth.

His fiancée - later wife - Kathleen Green, was Chairman's Lady 1966-67.
