Joseph Alexander Strickland

Chairman of Little Lever Urban District Council: 1956-57 (Conservative)

Born: Darcy Lever, Bolton 25 October 1910

Died: Little Lever 9 December 1963

Educated: St Michael's School, Great Lever

Master Plasterer.

Managing Director of family plastering firm, J Strickland & Sons Ltd.

Represented Church Ward 1952-1963.

Chairman of various Committees.

Member of Farnworth and Walkden Employment Committee.

He was a member of the Conservative Club.

He was a member of Little Lever Football and Cricket Clubs and played football for Little Lever, Astley Bridge and Breightmet.

Freemason.

When he died, Councillor Jack Lawton said "He was a man of ideas and he carried those ideas out. He was in the building trade and many times he has given us good advice. But the thing we will miss above all in the Council chamber is that big beaming smile he used to have on his face."
