John Marshall

Chairman of Blackrod Urban District Council: 1951-52, 1964-65, 1968-69 (Conservative)

Born: Haigh, Lancashire 30 November 1909

Died: Blackrod 21 October 1995

Farmer at Vauze House, Blackrod.

Councillor 1946-52, 55-58 and from 1961.

In his inauguration speech he said "whilst I am satisfied with the quality of our houses, I think that our building costs are too high. I don't think any of us will be completely satisfied until we see the old houses pulled down and Blackrod folk accommodated in modern and attractive homes". He also thought something should be done for the young people of the village and playing fields provided.

Chairman of Wigan and Standish branch of Farmers Union and Calf Certifying Officer for Horwich, Blackrod, Adlington and Heath Charnock.

Trustee of Blackrod Conservative Club.

Manager of Blackrod Secondary Modern School.
