Annie Matilda Hogg

Chairman of Kearsley Urban District Council: 1935-36, 1949-50 (Conservative)

Died: Bolton 1990

Born Annie Matilda Wilson. Trained as a nurse.

Married William Smith Hogg, a paper works manager in 1922.

First female Chairman of Kearsley Urban District Council.

Councillor from 1930. Magistrate 1937.

On taking up office as Chairman for the second time she said that since her first term as Chairman "there had been a terrible War which had left them with very different problems to the ones they faced in 1935. There were three particularly; the provision of more playing fields, more housing and the provision of a centre where old people could meet. It was most important that young people starting in life should make a right start with a home of their own."

Particularly interested in social work and had a long record of voluntary work in many spheres.

President and a former Secretary of the Stoneclough Nursing Association, President of the Stoneclough Women's Conservative Association, Vice-President and Commissioner of the Farnworth Divisional Girl Guides movement, President and Chairman of the Farnworth Branch of the Electricity Association for Women and a member of the Committee of the Farnworth Amateur Operatic Association.

Chairman of the Farnworth Women's Advisory Committee at the Employment Exchange, a member of the Farnworth Area Youth Council Advisory Committee, the Juvenile Employment Committee and the Juvenile and Probation Committee at Bolton.

Also on the Committee of the Northern Counties Scottish Terrier Club.

Her first husband died in 1944 and she remarried in 1961 to Benjamin Hesketh.
