Herbert Glynn

Mayor of Bolton: 1969-70 (Labour)

Born: Bolton 10 February 1908

Died: Bolton November 1995

Worked as a spinner in Astley Bridge until the mill closed down, then worked 13 years for Warburton's bakery until retiring as public relations officer from the company in 1973.

The company gave him 12 months leave with pay while he undertook his Mayoral duties.

Represented Dean-cum-Lostock Ward 1945-47 and Bradford Ward from 1949.

Magistrate 1953, Alderman 1964 and Honorary Alderman 1974.

Secretary of Bolton Trades Council for 29 years.

He was the first Roman Catholic to become Mayor of Bolton - just over 130 years after the first Mayor was elected.

His wife, Elizabeth, was Mayoress.
