Shop assistant with Hanbury's grocers until 1941 and then worked at Burton's clothing factory.

Represented North Ward from 1960.

Chairman of Information, Publicity and Entertainments Committee.

He was a member of the Executive committee of Farnworth Labour Party and Chairman of the North West Ward Committee.

Roman Catholic - He attended Our Lady Of Lourdes Church, Farnworth. He was a Church Apparitor and Vice Chairman of the Men's Club, of which he was a founder member.

He was unmarried and his sister, Mrs Cecilia Boustead, was Mayoress.
