Horace Barrett

Chairman of Kearsley Urban District Council: 1945-46 (Labour)

Born: Outwood, Lancashire 22 May 1898

Died: Farnworth 25 December 1970

Educated: St Saviour's Day School, Ringley

Spent most of his working life on the railways as an electrician at the LMS Power House, Trinity Street, Bolton.

After retirement he worked part time at Kearsley Council's Bolton Road recreation ground, collecting bowling and tennis fees.

Represented South Ward from 1936. He retired in 1948 due to ill health.

Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Grounds, Planning and Higher Education Committees.

Member of the NUR and was an auditor for Number 2 Branch.

Was well known in amateur football circles and played for Walkden as a centre forward. Also played for Ringley St Saviour's, Kearsley St Stephen's and towards the end of the First World War was on Bolton Wanderers' books as an amateur.

Anglican - he was a choirboy at St Saviour's Church.
